The history of "waifu" that started 18 years ago

Do you know how the word "waifu" came into existance?

It all started on 15th july 18 years ago

So, this clip is from the anime "Azumanga Daioh".

The first person to ustter the word "waifu" and change the weeb culture was Kimura Sensei.

In this scene the protagonist's perverted Home room teacher drops a picture of a beautiful woman and it gets picked up by one of his students and when the students asked 'who's she', Kimura replies "my waifu", he was meant to say 'my wife' but ends up saying 'mai waifu' due to his japanese dialect.

This series was first introduced to American audiences in 2005.

Later this word was heavily used By many anime fans as a referring female character and as a flamebait to mock the obsessive nature of the subculture.
